Dr. Oteham to discuss healthcare changes

This summer we are celebrating the beginning of our new Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residence Program.  Effective July 8, we welcomed five new Residents to begin their training in Family Medicine at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

The Director of the Family Medicine Residency program, Larry Oteham, B. S., D.C., D.O. is this month’s featured speaker for Dine with the Docs.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 14, in the Conference Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on the basement level of the East Tower.  A complimentary dinner will be provided by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Chatters Café at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required for the dinner and presentation.

Dr. Oteham’s program is “The Changing Wave of Healthcare.” There is little question that healthcare is changing. One can barely get through one day that doesn’t feature some news report or anecdotal incident about anything ranging from healthcare reform to evolving healthcare coverage, to new treatment recommendations. Dr. Oteham will discuss evidence-based medicine, current healthcare challenges and saying goodbye to “fee for service” – among other subjects. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

If you wonder about the direction healthcare is going, or if you would like to learn more about the Family Medicine Residency Program, this Dine with the Docs will be of interest to you. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet and greet several of the new Family Medicine Residents at the meeting.

Dr. Oteham holds both a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences, Kansas City, Missouri.

He completed his Family Practice Residency at Des Peres Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri.

After twenty years in private practice, Dr. Oteham joined the faculty of the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KyCOM), as Associate Professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practices.  While at KyCOM, he was named Educator of the Year and was awarded the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in teaching as well as the Faculty Appreciation Award.

In 2013, Dr. Oteham joined Lake Cumberland Medical Associates as a family practice physician. He is also the Program Director for the Family Medicine Residency program at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Dr. Oteham is board certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

“Dine with the Docs” is a regular monthly program series developed to educate interested persons regarding important health issues.  The programs are sponsored as a public service by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and the Lake Cumberland Chapter of Senior Friends.  For more information or to make required reservations, call 606-678-3274.
