Dr. Richard Cunningham is this month’s Dine with the Docs speaker

“Knees and Shoulders: From Sprains to Replacement”

Thousands of people all across the United States suffer from pain, limited range of motion, loss of mobility and stiffness in their joints. For some, non-surgical treatments, medication and/or physical therapy are successful, however, they don’t work for everyone. In fact, some 600,000 people in the U.S. each year opt for knee replacement surgery and about 50,000 per year rely on shoulder replacement surgery to relieve their pain and restore their quality of life.

This month’s “Dine with the Docs” program features our new Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery specialist, Richard Cunningham, M.D. He will present the program, “Knees and Shoulders: From Sprains to Replacement,” on Tuesday, April 10, in the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Conference Center on the basement level of the East Tower.

A complimentary dinner provided by the hospital is available in Chatters Café at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

Dr. Cunningham will be discussing all things about knees and shoulders during the program. If you have experienced an injury or strain, are suffering with pain, stiffness, or limited range of motion and mobility, or if you would like to learn more about joint replacement and sports injuries, this program will be of interest to you. Dr. Cunningham will discuss symptoms and diagnosis as well as non-surgical and surgical options that are available. A question and answer session will follow the program.

Dr. Cunningham earned his medical degree at The Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. He completed his General Surgery Internship at the Medical College of Virginia as well as his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at The Miami Sports Medicine Fellowship in Miami, FL.

Dr. Cunningham is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is also a Diplomate of The National Board of Medical Examiners. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Cunningham has been team physician or assistant team physician for a number of high school, college and professional teams, including the Miami Heat National Basketball Association team.

“Dine with the Docs” is a regular monthly program series developed to educate interested persons regarding important health issues. The programs are sponsored as a public service by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and the Lake Cumberland Chapter of Senior Friends.
