Spirit of Excellence Award Check Presentation

Congratulations to the LCRH Emergency Department! Two representatives from Sodexo Healthcare, the corporate sponsor of the Modern Healthcare Spirit of Excellence Award for Process Improvement visited Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on April 17 to present the award check in the amount of $5,000.

The ED was recognized for their phenomenal improvements in efficiency in caring for patients – reducing time to be seen by the physician from 48 minutes to 12 minutes; cutting the length of stay by more than 40 minutes; reducing the number of patients leaving without being seen and/or AMA to a fraction of 1%; increasing volume by 6%; and achieving all-time high patient satisfaction scores.

In presenting the award, Sue Kiley, Vice-President System Sales, Sodexo Health Care, noted, “This is a really great, great day for Lake Cumberland. This award is not an easy one to achieve. The service of excellence award program has been going on 20 years now. It was started with Modern Healthcare and Sodexo in partnership, because we believe the spirit excellence, service excellence, caring about the patient is the most important thing we do in healthcare.”

Kiley explained that there were five different award categories and 175 hospitals vying for the honors. She also said that Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital was in competition with extremely large hospitals and those of equal or smaller size – all of which thought they had the best innovation. “And you won it,” Kiley exclaimed.

“To be excellent in these categories and to win this award is really spectacular, so you should be very proud.”

“Serving your patients and the community and working to make your emergency department the successful operation it is today is quite a feat,” said Kiley. “The whole process was driven by improving patient satisfaction. When you hear about a project that is driven by making a patient happier - that gives you a great feeling. I congratulate you for what you have done.”

The $5,000 check presented to the ED team will be allocated as follows: $1,000 for purchasing gifts for ED pediatric patients, $500 to Bethany House, $500 to God’s Food Pantry, and $500 to South Central Kentucky Chapter of the National Emergency Nurses Association. The remaining $2,500 will be used for scholarships given in memory of Donna McAdoo for Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital team members who want to further their education in healthcare. Donna was a beloved Emergency Department unit secretary, who recently passed away after more than 45 years of service at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
