Magseed® Technology
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital recently introduced an innovative cancer technology, the Magseed® marker, to improve outcomes and the standard of cancer care in Pulaski County. This technology benefits patients with a more accurate and less invasive breast tumor removal.
The Magseed® marker is a minuscule tiny, metal seed, 1mm by 5mm, which is smaller than a grain of rice. The Magseed® marker replaces the traditional guidewire method of cancer marking, which has been shown in numerous studies to carry the risk of migrating before surgery. The seed is strategically placed within the tissue to precisely mark tumors before surgical procedures. This facilitates the surgeon in locating and completely removing the cancerous tissue with better accuracy than traditional methods. Once implanted, the Magseed® marker remains securely in place, impervious to dislodgment or damage. This marker can be positioned days, weeks, or even months prior to the scheduled surgery.
