January 15, 2016

Cancer Treatment Center - New location for this week’s POP meeting

J.R. Smith is Monday’s speaker

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital welcomed participants for the 4th Annual Pounds Off Pulaski (POP) challenge to the hospital on Monday, January 11 for their first weekly weigh-in. This was also the last opportunity for individuals to join the 2016 program.

Pounds Off Pulaski is a 12-week county-wide weight loss challenge sponsored by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.

The first program of the informational series, held on conjunction with the weigh-in, was presented by Dr. John Mobley, bariatric surgeon, who discussed, “Reaching and Maintaining Your Great New Weight.”

The second weekly meeting will be held on Monday, January 18, with weigh-ins beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the program to follow at 6:00 p.m.

Please note there is a change in location for the January 18 meeting and weigh-ins.  They will be held in the Community Room at the Lake Cumberland Cancer Treatment Center, located at 112 Tradepark Drive, at light #8. The January 25 meeting will move back to the hospital.

This week’s program features one of the POP community partners, J. R. Smith, medical exercise specialist and owner of Fit Maxx Functional Fitness and The Wellness Clinic.  His presentation will be "How to be an 8 Percenter."

Smith stated that Psychology Today reported that, of all those that attempt to make a lifestyle change for New Year's Resolutions, 92% of them fail.

“We are going to explore what the remaining 8% did to make their transformation successful. With a simple, yet wise approach, you can make your New Year's Resolution one that will keep you successful all year long and put you in the 8% Success Group," said Smith.

During the 12-week POP challenge, meetings designed to provide support, information, and helpful tools to help participants keep on track and reach their personal goals are held each Monday evening.

Participants who come to weigh in and go to the informational meeting are awarded POP points. Individuals who are unable to attend the meetings may watch the programs online by visiting www.PoundsOffPulaski.blogspot.com.  They can also download handouts on the site.

“We are very excited to see the POP program to get off to such a great start,” said Susan Ramsey Wilson, director of marketing and community relations at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Wilson noted that community members who are not POP participants are also welcome to come to the weekly meetings or watch the presentations on the POP blog.

“If you are interested in learning more about any of the wellness topics, please feel free watch them on the blog or join us for the meetings,” she continued.  “Our goal is to help our community become healthier, and we certainly want everyone to have access to this important information.”
