We're introducing the community to some of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital's Healthcare Heroes. We hope you enjoy getting to know them and learning more about what life looks like on the frontlines of the coronavirus at LCRH.
TODAY'S FEATURED HERO:
Rob Edwards, RN
Nursing Supervisor at Lake Cumberland Medical Associates
Q: How long have you worked here?
A: 6 years
Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t working in healthcare?
A: I'm not sure, I've always enjoyed working in healthcare! The medical field is constantly evolving. I really enjoy working in a profession where I can help people and where I always have something new to learn.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you at Lake Cumberland?
A: My typical day includes scheduling and staffing nursing shifts for LCMA and the Walk-In Clinic, working with local companies on our Occupational Medicine offerings, and partnering with our local school systems to provide care via the Schoolhouse Mobile clinic.
Q: How has your day-to-day changed since the coronavirus pandemic?
A: At LCMA, we've taken additional steps to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. We began screening staff at LCMA before each shift pretty early on, when the first signs of the virus hit the news. Since that time, we’ve also implemented screening policies for all visitors and patients, as well. We have closed all but the front entrance to make sure we see everyone that comes to the building and to ensure everyone gets a mask. We also now have runners that can deliver patient prescriptions and nursing home documents to the front door in an effort to reduce the traffic inside the building.
We're also working hard to encourage patients to use our new telemedicine offerings. I've been spending a lot of time, with a group of others, making sure that we've ironed out all of the details of this service. It's important that we still offer patients the same level of quality care that they've experienced in the past, in a safe environment - both to protect our PPE supply but also to help stop the spread of coronavirus. Telemedicine truly allows us to do that and we've heard from patients aged 22 to 82 that they love this new service - it's convenient, fast, and easy to use.
Q: What’s saving your life right now?
A: My family, and the great team I work with at LCMA and LCRH.
