The ultimate knee replacement experience
See how knee replacement has changed—and what it can do for you.- Designed for you
With 3D digital modeling you get a surgical plan that’s customized to your unique anatomy. That means your surgeon can perform your robotics-assisted procedure more efficiently and accurately than traditional knee replacement.
- An implant built to last
Your surgeon has access to implants made from a unique metal alloy designed to reduce the effects of implant wear and tear. In fact, this alloy has been lab-tested for durability 9-times longer than the international standard for joint replacements.
- A wide selection
With knee implants, your surgeon is choosing from the widest selection available. That means your implant can be precision-matched to feel more like your own knee.

Rosa® Robotics
The ROSA® Knee System is a robotic surgical assistant developed by Zimmer Biomet that enables surgeons to carry out knee replacement procedures with greater precision and a higher standard of care during knee replacement surgery. The ROSA robotic system utilizes real-time information and assists surgeons with the precise placement of knee implants based on a person’s unique knee anatomy.
ROSA® Robotic Knee System for total knee replacement is indicated for individuals with early-to-mid-stage osteoarthritis of the knee exhibiting symptoms such as knee pain, knee swelling, and knee locking, that is not amenable to conservative treatment. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease causing breakdown and eventual loss of cartilage in the joint enabling bones to rub against each other leading to painful movement.
Surgical Treatment Options
The ROSA® Robot can be used for procedures such as
- Total Knee Replacement Surgery
- Partial Knee Replacement Surgery
- Hip Replacement Surgery
The ROSA® system utilizes a series of X-rays to generate 3D images of an individual’s unique anatomy. This 3D image enables the surgeon to design a personalized plan based on the specifics of an individual’s knee/hip anatomy prior to performing replacement surgery.
Compared to traditional open surgeries, the benefits of ROSA® robotic-assisted surgery can include:
- Increased accuracy compared to traditional knee/hip replacement
- Better implant positioning, which can result in a more natural-feeling knee/hip after surgery
- Potential for better long-term satisfaction and outcomes
In essence, the utilization of the ROSA knee system in surgery closely mirrors the conventional total knee replacement process, but with the valuable assistance of a robotic partner. It's crucial to note that the robotic system doesn't perform the surgery independently; instead, your skilled surgeon conducts the entire procedure, guiding the robotic hands according to a personalized surgical plan developed by the surgeon. The ROSA knee system serves as an additional tool, aiding the surgeon in achieving heightened precision when positioning knee implants.
During the surgery, the ROSA Knee operates like a cutting-edge GPS system, utilizing optical trackers and a miniature camera affixed to your leg to ascertain the precise spatial positioning of the knee. The robotic system makes adjustments even with the slightest movement of your legs, ensuring the surgical plan designed by your surgeon is carried out without any changes and with a high degree of precision. Throughout the procedure, your surgeon is provided with real-time data by the ROSA Knee System, which enhances your surgeon’s skill, enabling accurate placement of the knee implant.
Persona IQ Smart Knee Implant
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is pleased to offer an innovation in Orthopedics: The Persona IQ Knee Implant with Smart Sensor Technology. The Persona IQ revolutionary knee implant is equipped with miniature sensors discreetly integrated within the patient's knee joint. These sensors meticulously capture a spectrum of vital data, including a range of motion, step count, walking speed, and other essential gait metrics. What sets this innovation apart is its seamless wireless transmission of this data to a secure cloud platform, providing both patients and clinicians with unprecedented insights into the recovery journey.
In traditional total knee replacements, a small tibial stem extends into the top of the tibia, or shinbone. The Persona IQ adds a layer of technology by embedding tiny sensors into the tibial stem of the long-established total knee replacement device.
Once implanted in the knee, the first-of-its-kind orthopedic device measures, records, and securely sends to the cloud a wide range of gait data. Surgeons can also compare post-operative gait metrics with mobility metrics collected before the surgery. Orthopedic specialists at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital can now see data daily and see how the patient is progressing; this is in addition to other physiological primary measurements, which gives them insight into how the patient is doing outside the clinic walls.
- First-to-world smart implant that captures key kinematic data metrics
- The objective kinematic data is an adjunct to other physiological parameter measurement tools applied by the physician during the course of patient monitoring and treatment post-surgery
- Provides a direct view of patient-specific data for at least ten years
- The long-term data is automatically available through a simple-to-use, intuitive, private interface for both patients and physicians to view
