Day of Surgery

You may brush your teeth, but do not swallow any water.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and leave jewelry and unnecessary valuables at home.
If your child is having a procedure, they may wear their pajamas in and bring a favorite toy or blanket.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring cases to store them in.
We schedule our patients approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour before surgery, and it is very important that you arrive on time. This will enable our staff to complete your registration, obtain needed medical tests, complete your medical history and prepare you for your surgery. If you will be late arriving or you cannot keep your surgery appointment, please notify us at 606.678.9688.
For the convenience of patients' families and visitors, we have a lobby with television and Wi-Fi access. Since it is the desire of our facility to accommodate our patients and their families comfortably, we ask that you please limit those accompanying you on the day of the surgery.
Bring your insurance cards and a picture ID.
Upon arrival at the facility, you will be asked to sign in and wait to be registered.
After registration, you will be called back to the pre-operative area to be prepped for surgery. The pre-op process takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
After you are prepped, the staff will allow a family member back to sit with you while you wait.
An anesthesiologist will examine you and ask you about your health in the pre-op holding area prior to administering anesthesia medicines during the procedure.
Anesthesia is a medication that keeps you from feeling pain during your surgery. The anesthesia provider will explain the anesthesia options best suited for you. There are three different types of anesthesia used during surgery:
- Regional Anesthesia numbs one region of your body
- Monitored sedation makes you drowsy or lightly asleep
- General Anesthesia makes you completely asleep
The nursing staff that will be with you during your procedure will also speak with you in pre-op.
