Non-Surgical Weight Loss
At Lake Cumberland, we know that weight loss is a very personal journey: what works for another person may not be the right path for you. That’s why, in addition to our full range of bariatric surgery services, we offer customized non-surgical weight loss alternatives that are medically sound and supervised to help you achieve your weight loss goals.
What is non-surgical weight loss?
Non-surgical weight loss, or medically supervised weight loss, is a plan designed and supervised by healthcare professionals, focusing on diet, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle. Medical weight loss empowers you to lose weight without surgery, by changing your relationship with food, eliminating harmful eating habits and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
What are the benefits of non-surgical weight loss?
The benefits of non-surgical weight loss go far beyond better-fitting clothes. Many patients participating in this program have seen benefits ranging from lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels to reduced pain in weight-bearing joints.
A patient's personal results depend on a variety of factors, including:
- The amount of desired weight loss
- Medical conditions
- Non-surgical weight loss options chosen
- Personal commitment and dedication to the process
Is non-surgical weight loss right for me?
Non-surgical medical weight loss services may be the right choice if:
- You prefer to lose weight without surgery or do not qualify for bariatric surgery;
- You have tried dieting on your own without success;
- You are worried about other health issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or sleep apnea that may be the result of your weight gain
- You need to lose weight before bariatric surgery
Patients will have an initial assessment with an Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) that includes history and physical examination, laboratory work-up, and body composition evaluation. The body composition evaluation breaks down the body into percentages of fat, protein, minerals, bone, body water, and muscle.
What can I expect?
Lake Cumberland’s weight loss team will work with you to create an effective plan for healthy, non-surgical weight loss. After being medically evaluated, you’ll work with a registered dietitian/nutritionist to create and follow an effective diet plan. You’ll also receive counseling to help you change your behavior and lifestyle. Our team of medical weight loss professionals will work with you to establish realistic goals and how to achieve them, and help you adjust your plan as needed.
Additional non-surgical weight loss services will vary based on the individual, but may include FDA-approved prescription weight-loss medicine. Medically supervised weight-loss medications work in different ways. Some help curb your appetite or make you feel fuller sooner, while others are designed to make it harder for your body to absorb fat from the foods you eat. Studies show that these medicines work best when combined with other lifestyle changes, like healthy eating and exercise.
Remember... Our team supports you through all of our programs with continued education and counseling before and after any procedures or weight loss plan. Our goal is to help you lose weight and enjoy your new life. But we cannot do this alone. Achieving success with the surgical or non-surgical weight loss program requires commitment, following a diet plan, exercising, and following up with our physician and support staff on a regular basis. Our team will help you along the way in achieving your goals and making lifestyle changes that can help guide you on your new journey.
